PHARMACY

The Cat Practice maintains an extensive pharmacy for the convenience of our clients.

For cats that don't want to take liquids or pills, we offer transdermal preparations where possible, as only certain medications can be delivered in a transdermal gel. This form of medication is very easy to use and our years of experience with this form of delivery has shown us what works and what doesn't. Some conditions that can be treated with transdermal gels include hyperthyroidism, allergies, and hypertension. Please ask us if the medicine your cat needs can be made in this way. The preparation of the medication can take some time, so if you need a refill, please give us a call 2 weeks before you will run out.

Flavored liquid medication is also available. This option is often well tolerated by cats who would otherwise be very difficult to medicate.

In addition, many commonly used medications are available only in sizes which are not suitable for cats. For this reason we have many of these specially formulated for us into cat size doses. This makes medicating your cat safer and more accurate than taking a conventional pill and trying to cut it into the size your cat requires.  We endeavor to keep adequate amounts of these specially formulated medications on hand, but we do have supply disruptions on occasion. Please call ahead to get your refills, so we can keep your cat's condition under control.

We carry several topical parasite control products, including Frontline,  Revolution, and Advantage Multi, to protect your cats from a variety of parasites, including fleas, heartworm, ear mites, intestinal parasites, and ticks. These are easily applied to the back of the neck once a month and are considered a very safe way to protect your cat and your family, as well.

If you have a cat who is difficult to medicate, ask us about Pill Pockets and stop by to get a sample. They can be use for pills, capsules, and even small doses of liquids. To see a demonstration, visit their website   http://www.greenies.com/en_us/Products/FelinePillPockets.aspx

Testimonial

Dr. Lori takes amazing care of my crew. She's always patient with my questions, even when I'm a nervous Nelly. I love that the practice is cats only. I've taken my cats to a "mixed" species vet, but they were never as comfortable as they are at The Cat Practice.
